Victory Monument is a great place to live! There is a variety of different property types in the area from low budget to luxury properties. There are lots of restaurants, shopping malls, green spaces and quick access to Bangkok from the BTS Victory monument, BTS Phaya Thai and taxis. There seem to be more Thais living in this area compared to other parts of Bangkok which means good food and great way to immerse yourself in Thai culture.
Negatives
It's a busy area and kind of a hub - so the traffic both auto and people can be high.
If you're looking for more foreign style bars etc then you may be better off further down the BTS line.

Good location if you want to be around BTS Victory Monument - very close to Suan Santhiphap Park - good for running daily and getting a bit of green space in Bangkok.
The building is maintained, rooms are decent rates for long term rental in Bangkok. Gym is ok and the pool is a decent size. Soi Rangnam is 1 minute walk away that has lots of restaurants, a couple of gyms and bars - Century plaza also not far for restaurants and the move theatre. The area itself has lots of expats and teachers however remains a Thai community which was good for practicing Thai language and making friends. Staff were friendly, as were security and there is a little mini mart at the bottom of the building to buy snacks and drinks.

It will attract higher prices for both rent and sale. Ekkamai is a developing area, and will eventually catch up to Thonglor. So, if you like trendy areas, Tonglor will be your more expensive option, if you prefer to stretch your budget a little further, Ekkamai is a good option with a strong potential to increase in value.
