Are there pros/cons of buying a condo on Thong Lo vs Ekkamai? Or are they similar?
Thong Lor and Ekkamai are very close to each other. Just a street over, however Ekkamai typically is better value yet still just 5-10 min away.
While close to each other, Thonglor is more developed and has numerous shops, bars and restaurants. It is a more "desirable" neighbourhood and in demand. It will attract higher prices for both rent and sale. Ekkamai is a developing area, and will eventually catch up to Thonglor. So, if you like trendy areas, Tonglor will be your more expensive option, if you prefer to stretch your budget a little further, Ekkamai is a good option with a strong potential to increase in value.
Ekkamai is a bit (but a bit) quieter Other is pretty much the same - all depends on the specific project

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the average rent for a villa in Watthana, Bangkok?
The average rent for a villa in Watthana can vary significantly based on size, location, and amenities, ranging from modestly priced to very high-end luxury accommodations. It's possible to find a comfortable villa for a few thousand USD per month, but more opulent homes with premium features can demand much higher prices. It's best to consult with a real estate agent for current listings and prices that match your specific needs.
Are there any additional costs I should be aware of when renting a villa?
When renting a villa in Watthana, you should budget for additional costs such as utility bills (electricity, water, and internet), maintenance fees, and possibly service charges if you require staff for housekeeping or gardening. Ensure you understand what is included in your rent and what is considered extra before signing a lease.
What is the typical lease term for renting a villa in Watthana?
Most landlords in Watthana prefer a lease term of at least one year, but it is not uncommon for lease agreements to run for two or more years, especially for high-end villas. Shorter rental terms may be negotiable, although they may come at a premium rate.
Can I negotiate the rent for a villa?
Yes, negotiation is quite common in the Bangkok real estate market. While some landlords may have fixed rates, especially in highly sought-after properties, there's often room to negotiate the monthly rent or terms of the lease, based on duration of stay, upfront payment, and other factors.
What should I look for during a villa inspection in Watthana?
During a villa inspection in Watthana, look for the overall condition of the property, including the quality of finishes, the state of appliances and fixtures, and any signs of damage or wear. Ensure that the security systems are adequate, check the functionality of air conditioning units, inspect for any pest problems, and make sure there's sufficient water pressure. Consider the natural light, noise levels in the neighborhood, and ease of access to local amenities as well.
